Battleship Yamato (大和)

Here is an interesting documentary about the WWII era Battleship Yamato. She was the largest, heaviest, and most powerful battleship ever built. At the time, the US and Britian were limited to 15 vessels of such great size. Japan and other nations to 9. To counter this fact, they decided to just build bigger. In fact, Yamato was more then twice as big as any ship the United States had (and longer than the Empire State Building is tall).

It was sunk in a sad end that foreshadowed the fall of Imperial Japan when, with no air cover and limited escorts, the Yamato sailed into more than 1000 US ships.

The lesson was aircraft carriers had superseded the battleship in the naval theater. This documentary goes into the ship’s history and rediscovery at the bottom of the ocean.
