Peaking out of my warm cocoon, the window yields a view fitting of the Himalayas: snow. The father and son team (Yonatan and Pops) bolt for lower elevation. Their porter is grossly underclothed with ripped sneakers, thin slothing, and a rather humorous plastic tarp given to him by the lodge to keep the snow and wet off.

Steve and I feel this is our only chance to make it over to EBC and decide to wait another day. We are the only ones to remain.

We pass the day reading Dharma Bums, playing chess, and drinking an age old Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer that had been carried across from the Tibet side. The can sported an old pull tab, Chinese characters, and plenty of dings, despite the owners claim it was a recent addition.

Our host continued to skimp on the yak dung fires and let us shiver, though our spirits are warm.

Note: Route times, elevations, and distances covered above are as measured by my GPS. Some measurements are estimated, that is I didn’t use the GPS that day, and will be noted as such.
