We wake in good time and hit the trail to Namche Bazar. Our host has already left to guide and meet two Canadians who I saw on my flight from Bangkok and to Lukla.

Its hot enough to sweat and we cover almost 10 km.

We crossed several amazing bridges spanning great chasms made with coiled steel. Even yaks must use the bridges and sometimes you get caught behind a large group of them. We follow the river most of the way, getting farther and farther away from everything.

The last part of the trail to Namche is uphill pretty steep. Steve is faster than I am but so far making in between guide book estimated times.

We had lunch at Jorsalle and took a short rest. The shop owner gave us a card for a lodge in Namche, wrote some Nepali on the back and told us we can get a discount if we show it.

In NB there are lots of shops selling Tibetan wares, trekking gear, and a myriad of other items trekkers might need. We’ll do a bit of shopping for what we need of our acclimatization day tomorrow.

We find the lodge as directed from the lunch lady and get a 50 Rs discount on our rooms as Hotel de Base Camp. After unwinding a bit, a nice walk around town is had knowing we can rejuvenate some first-day spring-in-the-step tomorrow.
